Very outdated and dirty rooms

Checked in for my sisters wedding which was also in Sheridan. I was the first to check in and check in took so long! Even for my relatives. I booked standard rooms which I hate doing for obvious reasons but for all our rooms, they upgraded us to villas in the presidential buildings. We very much appreciated that. Front desk also made sure to keep us all nearby each other which was also such a blessing as we were running to each others rooms while getting ready haha. Staff was very friendly and when we requested things, they showed up promptly at our door. This place just REALLY needs renovations. That’s the only thing that really made this 3 stars. Very old furniture and tables/chairs. Cracks in a lot of the furniture. The chair by one of our beds has some mysterious brown reddish stains… we just steered clear of it. Wasn’t something to really complain about unless it was the bed. I liked the jacuzzi in the rooms but knowing how old everything was, I really didn’t want to use it. My fiance finally got me to and then 5 mins in, yellow brownish foam started coming out of the jets. I knew that would happen. My biggest concern is that these rooms aren’t getting properly cleaned.

Sometimes you get what you pay for

This resort could be really awesome for a family, but it's got a few things going against it. Some of these things are easy fixes: replacing the filthy carpets (that felt sticky and left our feet black with dirt!) and making sure thee HVAC system isn't full of mold and mildew; this was at least the case for our room in the Q building on the first floor. Other reviews that I've seen have mentioned similar issues. I didn't want to make a fuss as we were traveling with our four young kids and were only going to stay for 2 nights, but I really wish I had gone right back to the front desk and requested another room immediately after walking in and getting a whiff of the place. Another issue with the resort is the lack of food options. There is a little counter service snack bar on site, but we never got a chance to try it. We did end up eating at the waterpark, but the meal options there are basically limited to pizza. As far as off-site meal options, there is a pizza place and the Norway Store appeared to also have food; we tried calling for delivery/pickup at the pizza place but were put on hold for several minutes and eventually gave up. Luckily we did bring some food with us, and also drove 15 minutes away to Ottawa and got some other groceries. Which brings up the last strike against this resort; it's in the middle of nowhere. That might be fine if you are there to just golf and maybe go to the waterpark but anything else is at least 15-20 minutes away. While there are some other activities you can do on-site like mini golf, basketball, and swimming, you also have to drive everywhere on-site; it'd be fantastic if there were walking paths that let people get from point A to point B. All this said: the staff are extremely nice and helpful. Our room itself, while not as clean or restful as I'd have liked, was sized perfectly for our 6 person family and I really appreciated that they included laundry and dish detergent. Some of the appliances were also newer, which was nice, and everything worked as expected, including the Jacuzzi, which was a hit with the kids. If you're looking for a cheap getaway close to Chicago and don't mind taking things easy, this resort might be a good choice for you. We had a ton of fun at the waterpark, but it's worth noting that you DO have to pay for that separately and it's not exactly cheap. The arcade in the activity center was fun and has several claw machines that my kids could actually win prizes in, which was very nice and something I appreciated since those cards are also not cheap. The painting activities were also nice and actually a great value as well. This last part may be on me, but as a rewards member, I was counting on having a late check-out. I did not ask for this specifically, but the resort was kind of dead and didn't anticipate that housekeeping would be making their rounds when they did, so while most of our stuff was packed and in our car by 10, when we stopped back around noon to grab the rest of our stuff, some of it had been tossed out by staff. Some of it had been packed up for us, which I did appreciate and I thanked the staff, but it was annoying to get home and realize that a bunch of beverages and candles were tossed as well. Again, this was on me, but I found it odd that the staff packed up some of the stuff for us but not everything. All that said, I think next time we'll go check out the Lake Geneva resort as it's equidistant for us and seems to have more going on. It'll also be more expensive, but like the title says, sometimes you get what you pay for.

No, I do not recommend this property.

Family 'Friendly'

The hotel space is great for families, plenty of room, a table/chairs to sit and eat. Do plan to bring your own beverages, snacks, food bc there are no restaurants or places to eat on campus or within 15-20 minutes (other than small mom and pop type eateries). The campus isn't easily walked, it can be done but there are no sidewalks for families to have little kids and there are several hills, be prepared to drive to the indoor and outdoor pool. It's also quite a hall to the indoor pool and/or water park. The 'water park' is not included in your stay, you will have to pay to enter at a 'discounted price' even if you are not swimming. (4 adults, 3 kids $150) You might be able to keep your kids entertained for a couple hours at this water park but mine got board pretty quick. It's also based on height, so our youngest (under 38in) wasn't able to do any of the slides.

Yes, I recommend this property.

Dirty rooms

I have been to this resort 4 times in the last year with my 3 year old grandson , 2 sons and my daughter in law. The first trip we were unaware that the “resort” was not a resort, there was no dining. As far as golf- well you can walk their 9 hole hilly course. This senior isn’t. The stains on the chair next to the bed was disgusting, the carpeting was filthy. And the facility charges 20$ a person for the waterpark. This past weekend when we arrived- we were out in a villa that is half the size as the others, incredibly dirty, on the outskirts of the property. No internet access. No elevators. Grandma and grandson came a day early with all the groceries in the world ready for a long 4 day weekend. The trips up and down the stairs sent this grandma right into heart failure. I did call and complain- 5 people in this villa yet only 4 chairs for the kitchen table? No room for the crib. And absolutely no storage in the kitchen. The groceries took up the small counter space. Even the coffee make took 40 minutes to make a pot of coffee! The next day they moved up- only because I went to the desk in heart failure to let them know my displeasure. Never went to the waterpark. Quite frankly, if it weren’t for my grandson, we would have left. There never would have been 4 trips to this dump, and there won’t be another. The Great Bear Lodge is about ten minutes away and a by far better choice. Resort means food, golf, fun. This resort doesn’t meet the meaning of resort in most every way.

Clean and fun water park.

The resort is close by and the water park is a fun get away for my daughter. Yeah you have to pay extra to get in, but it’s still nice. If you stay at the hotel they give you a discounted rate, just plan to show up early at noon and you can always leave and come back for the day.

Yes, I recommend this property.

The property is beautiful. They appear to be understaffed but almost everyplace is now. I would have liked to have seen USB charging ports and/or outlets at the bedside. I had to move the bedside table to get to the outlet.

Room was great and so was the staff.

We loved our room. The size and especially the shower/ hot tub combo.
